5 Tips For Better Skin

No matter your age, it’s never too early to delay natural aging and attain glowing and healthier looking skin. You can still find more ways to find younger looking skin even if you have your daily skin care regime down to a ‘T’ so here at Simply Be Skincare we want to share our favourite tips.

As a professional esthetician, these tips for better skin are affordable and designed for all skin types. How to keep you looking younger for longer:

1. Eat A Healthy Diet

Aging skin will be sped up by various factors – smoking and tanning beds to name a few but also poor nutrition. Optimise your nutrition by eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contain powerful anti-oxidants that are important for skin cell development and a healthy complexion. You will find that a lot of skin products contain Vitamin C, which is especially rich in anti-oxidants – but you can naturally incorporate these into your diet.

Oranges, grapefruit and other citrus fruits are fantastic for healthy skin, as are blueberries, broccoli, strawberries and sweet potato.

Keeping away from excess of sugar is another way to prevent aging skin. But I appreciate this might be easier said than done!

Sugary foods are short in essential minerals and vitamins, the same minerals and vitamins that help the healthy growth of skin cells. Of course, we all indulge in sugar every so often, but if your diet is lacking in diverse foods and minerals this all contributes to unhealthy, dull looking skin. Healthy foods can help you look and feel your best so be sure to include them on a daily basis. Better food equals better skin.

2. Stay Hydrated

Water is essential to giving skin that youthful elasticity. You should drink about 1.5-2 litres a day to keep your skin looking hydrated, youthful and fresh. If you struggle to get your water intake – try carrying a 500ml water bottle throughout the day as a reminder to drink and keep tabs of your daily intake.

Water is not the most adventurous drink and whilst all liquids technically count, water is the best for healthy and fresh looking skin. To make water a bit more exciting, why not include a couple of wedges of orange, lemon or lime – an easy way to incorporate vitamin C into your diet!

Ever thought you can eat to boost your hydration levels? Try eating fruits with high fluid levels such as Cucumber, Watermelon & Courgette.

3. Use An SPF

This is a really important piece of advice for younger looking skin – when Use an SPF. A minimum of SPF 15 protects against not only the sun, but also the cold and wind which unknowingly dry out your skin.

Exposure to the sun without any form of protection can result in sun spots, wrinkles and more serious forms of skin damage. That’s why making sure you start your day with a Moisturising SPF can keep your skin looking young, rejuvenated and healthy in a simple and easy way.

If your moisturiser does not include an SPF, you can always apply a light layer sun screen over the top.

Additionally to using an SPF, you should try to stay out of direct sunlight for long periods of time and seek shelter – whether that’s using a sun hat or keeping in the shade. The sun delays the skins supply of lubricating oils and harsh exposure of the sun can cause damage and even change the structure of your skin. Even if you live in the UK, you should still invest in sun and weather protection all year round.

4. Facial Exercises

Are you a fan of Karaoke? Ever considered why your favourite singers seem to have naturally, youthful skin? There is a strong connection between moving your facial muscles and anti-aging benefits Studies show that 30 minutes of facial exercise, twice a week can create a noticeable difference with the aging of someones skin.

Whether its singing in the car or shower, giving your face muscles an exercise can circulate the blood and releases tension in the face, smoothing out fine lines in only a matter of months, if that’s not an easy way to exercise I don’t know what is!

Looking on the bright side of life with funny faces and plenty of laughter are key to achieving a youthful glow. Using facial exercises (like shown in our video) can have huge benefits including aligned and healthy skin. Remember, the key to this technique is consistency, doing facial exercises for a period of time is when you can notice the difference, not just an overnight solution.

5. Use Upwards Strokes

When applying products, always remember to use upward strokes. This stops any draw down of the skin and premature signs of aging. Rubbing the skin in downwards strokes over time, can create sag and cause the skin to lack that lovely and youthful elasticity.

Along with using upwards strokes, make sure that you treat your skin gently when using any product or doing any facial exercise. Skin is resilient, but if you are vigorous and harsh in technique than this can have the opposite effect to what you’re wanting. Over time this will lead to further sag and less elasticity.
